Star Box

Origami Star Box with Stand

Here is a unique star box with little stands to balance on! It is a simple design to fold.

The fold in Step 2 determines the width of the opening. The closer that the fold is to the top, the smaller is the opening.

Week 10 (Day 06): Bonsai Box

Origami Bonsai Box

The last of my boxes and vases for this week is the very popular Bonsai Box, created by Katrin Shumakov. As boxes go, this is a complex origami, one that I have always been scared of trying, thinking that it will be too complex for me.

Now that I didn’t have a choice, I tried it out and realised that it wasn’t as complex as I feared! The best part of the box is that, unlike the other boxes/vases from Oriland, this has a good, wide mouth, that makes it a very convenient box to hold little things that are always scattered around my house!

Week 10 (Day 05): Vase

Origami Vase

Moving on to more complex Oriland boxes and vases, here is The Vase by Yurii Shumakov. This is a lot more complex to fold. Final assembly requires some tinkering with get all the folds settled in place 🙂

It is a very realistic looking vase and I loved folding this! I folded the first one in my office, when I didn’t have work to do and got a lot of appreciation for the vase.. And I am even more thrilled with my second try. It has come out quite well, I think 🙂

Week 10 (Day 04): Star Vase

Origami Star Vase

Here is yet another unique vase by Yurii Shumakov. This one is a Star Vase. The initial folds are quite simple. It is the final part, where a 2D structure is turned into a 3D, that takes some patience and effort.

Week 10 (Day 03): Duet Vase

Origami Vase Duet

The Vase “Duet” is a very unique vase I think. It is a combination of 2 vases, joined at the base. The unique thing is the little pyramids that are seen on the sides. There are 3 of them on either side of the vase. I am not sure they are clearly visible in the pic though, but the little projections on the side (2 just below the neck of the vases and 1 starting inbetween the vases) are the pyramids.

An interesting model to fold. I used a large square to get a sizeable vase. A 15-inch square gave me a vase that was around 5 inches tall.

Week 10 (Day 02): Box for Crayons

Origami Box for Crayons

The next of my Oriland Boxes is the Box for Crayons, designed by Yurii Shumakov. A simple but lovely box 🙂

I rather liked the way the base was formed. It isn’t at the end of the box, but rather about a quarter from the base. In the picture, that is the slight indendation you can see near the place where the centre square meets the edge of the box.

It is quite sturdy too, so really effective for storing crayons!

Week 10 (Day 01): Oriland Boxes and Vases

Oriland is a virtual Origami Land created by Yurii and Katrin Shumakov. I found it a very beautiful and colourful site and everything on the site is from paper!

They have instructions for some of their colourful creations and I really love their vases and boxes! So here is a week of oriland’s boxes and vases.

Origami Simple Box

To start off, here is a simple box, created by Yurii Shumakov. It should be done in a few minutes and looks best in either duo coloured paper or single sided paper. I love the little fold that comes up on one side of the box. This box has been quite useful for storing my daughter’s colour pencils! She loves them so much that I had 4 of them for her 🙂
