Week 14 (Day 02): Love Letter

Origami Love Letter
Francis Ow, the specialist in origami hearts, is the designer of this origami letter. The letter is pretty easy to fold and makes a great gift for Valentine’s day, though I don’t know how easy it will be to fold it back to the original shape, once unfolded! Will require some practise I think.

The heart doesn’t really show till it is locked into place, by inserting it under the triangular tab at the top (refer to the next picture).

I think the letter will look much better if folded from single sided paper, rather than paper with print on both sides. That will bring out the heart much better.

8 Pointed Star

Origami 8 Pointed Star - Gold

The 8 Pointed Star will be a sure addition to my Christmas tree! The star is made from a single square of paper and isn’t very difficult to make.

I tried making the star using thin gold paper and thicker wrapper paper. In both cases, the star turned out quite well.

Star of Bethlehem

Origami Star of Bethlehem

The Star of Bethlehem was the first origami that I tried from the book ‘Christmas Origami‘. The book is authored by John Montroll and has quite a collection of origami for Christmas, all of them made from a single sheet of paper.

The Star of Bethlehem was not very difficult to make, though I am not sure of how to make the arms stand right, without glueing the corners. I am making the 8-pointed star next and hope that it will come out better than this one did.

Here is something that isn’t origami per se, but does deal with paper and proves to be quite interesting. Paper braiding involves braiding or weaving thin strips of paper to form objects.

I found instructions for this bookmark on Youtube and gave it a go. I had used quilling paper and the bookmark turned out a little too thin. This might actually work better as a bracelet.

Week 11 (Day 06): Jack-o’-Lantern – 3D

Origami Jack O Lantern 3D

After completing the flat version of Jack-o-Lantern, I was searching for one that would not lie flat, a 3D version. And found this beautiful one, created by Tomohiro Tachi.

The CP for folding it is available on Flikr! I haven’t done much folding using CP, but that wasn’t an issue since Jo Nakashima has posted a detailed, clear and very useful tutorial on Youtube for folding the model.
